HOME - Yann Arthus-Bertrand Film

Today is the big launch of Yann Arthus-Bertrand's film HOME, which tells "the history of the Earth" with gorgeous footage and a custom soundtrack.

Can't tell you whether I recommend it yet, but the visual aspect is bound to be gorgeous. Here's a little sneak peek.

Watch it here for free on Youtube (Mr. Arthus-Bertrand and his colleagues launched it on YouTube for free on purpose to make it more accessible, along with the theaters who will feature it. It will also be available on DVD for very little cost).

There's definitely an envorinmental message woven through the whole film--that's the purpose of the film, really. So be ready for that. It's not just pretty pictures. :)

On the Other Hand, Movies are a Different Story

And I want to know which ones you've seen since January that you liked.

(Do you guys go to the movies? I keep seeing ads for American movies here, and I don't want to see them dubbed in French--that just seems weird.)

Did anyone see the Wizard of Oz remake? Is that American? Or is it French and I'm just making things up now?

"Say Aaaaaahhhhhhh"

Today I am going to an otolaryngolosist. That's an Ear, Nose, and Throat doc for those of us who can't be bothered with science but are grateful for those who can be bothered.

A few weeks ago I was visiting my allergist to get some prescriptions to tide me over in the City of Light, and he noticed a growth on my tonsil "unlike anything I've ever seen before." Awesome, doc. Can't wait to find out what that means.

He encouraged me to see an ENT right away. Lucky for me, I managed to get an appointment for today after calling about 8 different offices.

So. I might have a random skin tag on my tonsils (keep your fingers crossed that this is the case). I might (worst-case scenario) have some horrible tumor in my tonsils. I'll be extremely furious if I have cancer and I don't get to go to France (but it's a good thing I've got my priorities straight, right?). Ha. Or I might have to have my tonsils out last minute and be hopped up on pain killers for my entire trip across the Atlantic.

This, of course, all assumes that they do a biopsy of some kind and can even get the results before I leave.

What joy is mine. (Name the movie.)

Twilight Movie: Yes or No?

The Twilight movie opens today. Are you going to see it?

I will, but probably not this weekend. Unless there is a showing tomorrow that magically isn't sold out when I feel like making my way to the theater.

I might wait even longer because I don't want to be in a theater full of screaming girls in "Team Edward" shirts and the like. (Not that everyone going to see it is such a superfan... I'm just saying. It's like when we went to the new Star Wars movies and we found ourselves in line with a Sith Lord, Princess Padme, and other characters. What??)

I have mixed feelings about seeing the movie--I enjoyed the books (the last one FAR less than the previous three, unfortunately), and I'm curious to see how they translated some of the aspects of the book onto the big screen. I just hope I don't walk away from the theater wishing I had just saved my money and reread the books. :)
